Surprise, we’re off cruising again 18 Jan. 2013. This one came out of the blue. Susy and I had wanted to go to Buenos Aires and then cruise Brazil and the Amazon, but all the options in the future meant flying one way (and you know what we think about flying). Then one night a few weeks ago Susy was browsing the cruise sites (her full time job) when she hit on a Holland American (HL) cruise sailing out of Fort Lauderdale Jan 18th, cruising through the Caribbean, along the Brazilian coast to Rio de Janeiro on Feb 10, 11, & 12 (the last three days of CARNIVAL), then returning up the coast, into the Amazon River, back through the Caribbean, arriving at Fort Lauderdale March 8th, 49 days later. This cruise is a dream for us because it means we see Brazil, the Amazon, and top it off with a chance to again experience Carnival in Rio (probably the greatest party in the world). Oh, and did I mention get on and off the ship in Fort Lauderdale (no airplanes). The sad part is we miss our friends (especially Leonor) in BA, but we just have to set up a trip later, flying down and back. Over the last few weeks we had to get a Brazilian visa (which we now have in hand) and confirm the cruise, which we did last week.
OK, let’s take a look at the Itinerary:
We’re sailing aboard the ms Maasdam, a ship we sailed on twice before, once up to Canada, and the other time across the Atlantic to the Med. and back. Look up above and you see I have a new “Header” with a picture of the Maasdam sailing on what looks like the Amazon at sunset. Que Tal!!
Our first port is Key West, Jan. 19th, so until some time after that, I’ll say to you all have a Happy and Wonderful New Year,
Love You All,
Gary (alias Gagu)
P.S. Any questions or comments, let me know.
